Baseball and softball players are recognized as athletes of the month for Cuesta College.

Dayna Manser, softball player and Cayce Roco baseball player were recognized this month for their exemplary game play.

In exchange for these athletes’ hard work, each month two student athletes are chosen to recognize them both on and off the field.

A committee overseen by Pete Schuler chooses one female and one male athlete each month.

Schuler is the head coach of Women’s water polo and announces for the games here at Cuesta as well.

“It is a cool way to recognize student athletes here at Cuesta,” Schuler said.

Roco is from Santa Maria and is a  second year baseball player for Cuesta.

Roco is one of the starting pitchers for the Cougars this season but has previously played outfield in the previous season.

Roco has plans to continue his baseball career at a higher level.

“I will be attending California State University Northridge where i’ll be playing baseball and furthering my education” says Roco.

Baseball team is currently finishing up the second round of league and is hoping to go to the play offs.

The other student athlete, Dayna Manser is a freshman from Fresno that came to Cuesta college and began to play softball for the cougars.

Manser is a catcher for the softball team and sometimes also plays outfield for them as well.

The softball team is currently going through their league games and finishing up their second round in hopes to make it to the playoffs as well.
