Parking tickets will not be issued during the first week of the semester, giving students extra time to acquire their permit and avoid a $39 citation.
The permits, which have been available since July 25 of this year, do not have to be paid for immediately. Students may charge the permit to their account, and pay when they have the available funds.
“There’s really no excuse to not get a permit,†said Officer Scott Severen of Cuesta’s police department.
Typically, police issue 300-400 tickets in the first month, according to Severen. The one week grace period, as well as students’ ability to postpone payment, are intended to ensure students can attend campus without financial obligations holding them back.
“We would rather you have a parking permit than us be out there writing tickets,†said Severen.
Students can also print the vehicle registration form for the parking permit from Cuesta’s website to reduce time spent waiting in lines. Completed vehicle registration forms can be dropped off at building 6600A. Citations will be issued starting Aug. 22.
