Cuesta’s swimming pool will be closed for construction until fall 2019.

In light of Cuesta College closing its pool, a community and family fun day will take place where the community can come together for swimming and free treats.
The event will take place Saturday, April 28 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. where Dan Troy, Cuesta’s Assistant Superintendent/Vice President of Administrative Services, will also be at the event to talk about the pool closure from 12:45 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Jessica Strano, Administrative Assistant for Cuesta College Foundation, said both the foundation and community programs have partnered to put this event together.
“The pool is about to close for construction but before it does we thought it was a perfect time to offer the community a free day at the pool as a thank you,†Strano said.
Everyone attending the event will be granted free admission and also receive a free treat from Kona Ice, provided by the Cuesta College Foundation.
The pool closure is apart of a scheduled Measure L bond project that will replace the two existing pools on SLO campus with a 50-meter competition sized pool and an expanded 25-yard rectangle pool.
In addition a new restroom on the pool deck will be added, deck drainage, starting blocks, diving boards, and a portion of the pool deck will be replaced.
The project also includes Americans with Disabilities Act site and building 1000 accessibility upgrades.
During pool reconstruction the Cuesta swim team will have practices at both Morro Bay and Arroyo Grande high schools.
Construction is scheduled to begin this summer and this scheduled for completion in the fall of 2019.

The pool closed May 3, and won’t reopen until the fall semester 2019.
