At around 1:40 p.m. on Nov. 12 the power at Cuesta College went out.

Some classes were cancelled and many students left campus. The electricity returned about 10-15 minutes later for Cuesta College. Cal Poly lost power as well.

It appeared that the blackout at Cuesta College was part of a larger series of blackouts that mainly affected PG&E customers in cities including Cayucos, Atascadero, Templeton, Cambria, and Baywood.

According to PG&E spokeman Mark Mesesan, the power outage affected approximately 19,300 people in the region. PG&E is currently investigating an equipment issue at its electrical substation in Templeton.

“Safety is our most important responsibility and our crews are working to restore power to our customers as quickly as it is safe to do so,” Mesasan said.
